State Puppet Theatre – Plovdiv was found in 1946. It is e repertory theatre, financed by The Ministry of Culture and actively supported by Plovdiv Municipality. It is praised with the First Degree Award “Cyril and Methodius”.

 

Up to 2015, over 320 titles have been performed for 68 creative seasons. Every year about 5 new performances are produced and played in front of no less than 30 000 spectators. The theatre has toured in more than 40 countries, taking part in many international festivals, and is a laureate of more than 80 prestigious awards. Six of the performances of the theatre are included in the “Golden Fund” of the Bulgarian National Television.

 

The theatre promotes highly professional, dynamic and topical performances with a sharp and fresh sense of humour and improvisation, distinguishing itself from commercial productions. It’s open to innovative ideas, creative contacts, national and international cultural cooperation programs, stage arts and theatre management. It is successful at staging guest theatre productions from the country and abroad targeted at children and adults.

 

Since 1977 the State Puppet Theatre – Plovdiv has been initiating and organizing a festival form – “An International Preview of the Puppet Miniature” which in 1990 gained a statute of international festival named ‘Three Are Too Many, Two - Not Enough.’
