Emiliyan Stanev House-Museum – V. Tarnovo

Rating

Emiliyan Stanev House-Museum is Bulgaria’s first audio-visual museum. Immediately after the death of the great Bulgarian writer Emiliyan Stanev, on 15 March 1979, a decision is made for a museum of the author to be constructed in the town of Veliko Tarnovo. It is located in the heart of Old Tarnovo, on the place of his home near the Samovodska Charshiya market. Administratively, it is subordinated to the National Literature Museum in Sofia.

The writer’s Tarnovo home, as the museum is often called, completely destroys our idea of a typical museum equipped with glass cupboards, traditional objects and many documents. The museum complex takes up two buildings located one against the other. One of the buildings keeps Emiliyan Stanev’s archive, his library and personal belongings; has a salon for meetings and an administrative part. Although different, the two buildings are stylistically similar.

Here you can see the Remington typewriter on which the author wrote all his works and the last page of the author’s diary from where we learn that till his last days Emiliyan Stanev cared about the universal questions about the spirit. Here are his glasses, other personal belongings and a notebook with notes on the Legend of Sibin, the Knyaz of Preslav novel.
