Drama Theatre – Targovishte hosts and produces performances for children and adults. The variety of genres, topics and problems in the performances attracts people of different ages and social status from the region of Targovishte and from many other regions in Bulgaria. A great number of Bulgaria’s most famous theatres and theatre artists have guested on the stage of Drama Theatre – Targovishte. Targovishte has developed itself as a theatre centre with traditions and lovers of the art of Melpomene.

 

The ‘Magical Curtain’ (‘Valshebnata zavesa’) Festival of Children’s Plays has established itself through the years as an event of international popularity and national prestige. Professional companies from Bulgaria and Europe participate in it. It is Bulgaria’s only national forum of children’s drama performances, backed by Targovishte Municipality and the Ministry of Culture, that has its own status and authority. It is held annually in the first week of May.

 

Every year, in the first week of June, the theatre hosts the ‘Days of the Big Theatre in the Small Town’ (‘Dni na golemiya teatar v malkiya grad’) events – theatre forum for adults, presenting popular titles of the national theatre repertoire.

 

The theatre’s team has based its repertoire policy on the idea of being closer to the people, seeking topics and plots from our contemporary life. The creative team of the theatre is often accompanied by nationally recognized actors and directors. The company is really mobile and a great part of its performances are touring which brings their theatre production closer to spectators from small and big places all around the country.
