Bulgarian Army Theatre (Teatar Balgarska Armiya) is located in the very centre of Sofia in a convenient and easily accessible place. Its building was raised in the distant 1936 and during the 30s of the previous century it functioned as the then-popular Royal Cinema. During the World War II bombardments it was almost completely destroyed but after several reconstructions it became a modern theatre space equipped with a main auditorium containing 500 seats and with a chamber theatre stage accommodating 60 viewers.

 

For its 60-year-old history the theatre has presented to the audience more than 300 plays. The theatre repertoire includes classical works by authors of the world dramaturgy, some of the best plays by classical Bulgarian and foreign playwrights as well as the first staging of new Bulgarian plays. The theatre has visited a number of countries with its performances.

The theatre has participated and been awarded theatre prizes in a great number of national and international festivals.
