Balgaran Theatre

Rating

Balgaran Theatre is the first professional private theatre on the cultural map of the town of Varna and Northwestern Bulgaria.

Balgaran Project’s first performance was held in 2004 in the building of Varna’s Navy Club which today houses the theatre hall with its own sound, lighting and stage equipment.

The theatre is registered as a cultural organization by the Ministry of Culture. Since 2010, together with Word Forum of Arts Foundation, it runs the ‘Word Forum of Arts – to the Stars’ monodrama and music theatre festival in Varna. The forum is held every year and is under the patronage of UNESCO and the ITI (International Theatre Institute).

The theatre’s repertoire policy is aimed at the realization of comedy plays of high artistic value and strong citizen’s stance, which use their relaxing energy to amuse and entertain the spectators and make them co-actors in the stage acts.

Balgaran Theatre not just interprets contemporary dramatic texts but also forms a space where beginner theatre artists can create and prove their talent.

The theatre stages both its own and guest performances. Apart from being an Open stage, Balgaran Theatre coproduces seven stage productions. To this day it has produced four original shows, a theatre series and four plays for children with professional director and actor teams.

It also has its own recording studio which provides for the technical aspect of the performances.
