The Madara National Historical and Archaeological Reserve, including the famous rock bas-relief, stands on the Madara Plateau. The complex consists of fort ruins, temples and civil buildings. The fortress reveals breathtaking views of the plane.

The Living Danube Limes (LDL) project will develop a website and mobile application aiming to present the archeological sites of Roman fortifications, fortresses, and settlements along the Danube Region in an interactive way. Approximately 350 sites will be included, and 8 pilot sites from partner countries will be presented through virtual reality (VR) reconstructions. The coordinator for Bulgaria, National Tourism Cluster "Bulgarian Guide" (NTC-BG), is responsible for the Bulgarian pilot site Bononia/Vidin, which together with the remains and finds in Sinagovtsi and Ratiaria/Archar, have the potential for huge tourist development of Vidin Region in cultural and historical aspect.

Pilot site visits in 3 stages were conducted by the Bulgarian Partners in the Living Danube Limes (LDL) project (preliminary stage in April 2021; stages 1 and 2 in October 2021): the Pilot Site Coordinator - National Tourism Cluster “Bulgarian Guide”, the Association of the Danube River Municipalities, and the Centre for Heritage Interpretation. Together with the associated partner Regional Historical Museum of Vidin (RHMV) they discussed the present and future opportunities for further development of Bononia/Vidin, Sinagovtsi, and Ratiaria/Archar. During all stages of the event, the Living Danube Limes project objectives, endeavours, and expected results were introduced, as well as exchanging opinions on how to make the rich antique heritage of the Vidin area better known, and how to inspire heritage management institutes for innovative approaches, and local communities for active participation in heritage related initiatives.

King Asen's Fortress is a strategic defensive point at the White Sea passage. During the Ottoman invasion it was ruined to the ground and only the church "St. Mary of Petrich”, as we know it nowadays, remained intact. It is restored and present it's an active temple again.
