More than 20 years ago the family of Svetla and Stefan Marinovi decided to invest in vineyards near the Danube River. They selected the lands located near the town of Oryahovo, on the shore of the Danube River, with a view to the Esperanto Island. The vineyards got the name from the Roman fortress Burgozone, located on the ancient Roman road Via Istrum. Over the centuries the region is famous as one of the main wine regions in Bulgaria. The Marinovi family are guided by a minimalistic intervention in the winemaking process, paying special attention to the characteristics of the grapes’ variety. “We produce wines with an individual character and with “a sense of belonging”, which are typical for the potential of the Danube Plain region.” The family winery is supporting young generations of vine growers and tractor drivers to get education and certification, taking part in various education and professional programmes, and started special educational programme for these occupations in the local school.
