On the banks of the Danube river, a small Bulgarian town became the center of a bold vision for rural revival. In a collaborative workshop co-organized by National Tourism Cluster "Bulgarian Guide", Association of Danube River Municipalities "Danube", and Municipality of Nikopol, local voices came together to shape the future of heritage-based rural development in the Danube Region.
This was not just a workshop. It was a statement.

With a sense of purpose and creative energy, the Danube Ruralscapes project officially kicked off on 28–30 May 2025 in Budapest, Hungary. Over three days of lively exchange, the event brought together an inspiring mix of partners, experts, and institutional voices - not only to launch a new Interreg initiative, but also to strengthen ties with its sister project, PlaceCRAFT, forming a shared platform for collaboration across borders.

In the heart of Budapest, beneath the ornate ceilings of a historic building and within walking distance of the Danube itself, a quiet transformation began to unfold. It didn’t start with big headlines or sweeping declarations. Instead, it began with a map - and a question: What do our rural communities need to thrive in the 21st century?

The Danube Region’s villages are rich in history, identity, and potential — but they face mounting challenges from depopulation, poor infrastructure, and the loss of traditional built environments. Today, we are proud to announce our role as a partner in Danube Ruralscapes, a landmark European cooperation initiative that aims to turn the tide.

Osijek, Croatia – May 2025 – The vibrant river city of Osijek recently played host to two extraordinary back-to-back events under the Danube Guides Action 2 (DGA2) umbrella: the Network Consolidation Meeting (May 12–13) and the Transnational Intensification Course (May 14–16).
