The aim is to contribute to the sustainable use of the natural and cultural heritage and resources of the region by  creating a spatio-cultural network – “The Danube Promenade”, connecting all communities along the river, unifying these into one tourism destination brand, offering thematic routes and developing possibilities that can increase the number of visitors and can prolong their stay in the region.

More than 150 representatives of 39 institutions from the academical and research fields, tourism sector and public authorities from 7 Danube countries are actively working in the network.

The 2017 DANUrB adventure started from Central Europe to reach as far as Asia! After the kick-off meeting in Budapest, the project initiatives continued with an on-site research camp in Krems (Austria), a workshop in “Methodology of Urban Design” in Golubac (Serbia), a workshop in collaboration on cultural and spatial development in Sturovo (Slovakia), a student trip between Paks (Hungary) and Kopacevo and Vukovar (Croatia), concluded by a comparative study about the urban and architectural culture of the two DANUrB cities.

A workshop on the cultural potential of Komarno (Slovakia) marked the beginning of the new project phase, continued by participation in a conference, dedicated to the post-war urban heritage of CEE, a seminar on regional and spatial project planning of the cross-border area of Giurgiu (Romania) and Ruse (Bulgaria).

The European example reached even Hua (Henan province, China), where project partners representatives took part in the 2017th  Canal and Towns Forum, in order to present the experience of DANUrBin the preservation and development of the cultural heritage along the Danube region.

The project activities will be followed by the development of an innovative mobile application, unifying the results of the researches of cultural and historical heritage of the area and the tourist routes along the Danube. Being a project partner, National Tourism Cluster “Bulgarian Guide will be actively involved in the valorisation of the cultural and historical heritage of the region and the tourism-related activities.
