The Danube Roman Heritage as a part of a common European Cultural Route
We are honored to invite you to participate in a focus group dedicated to the Danube Limes. Part of the Danube Limes or the border of the Roman Empire along the Danube with the adjacent fortification system received the status of a UNESCO World Heritage Site in July 2021.
The aim of the first focus group in Bulgaria is to present the innovative approach to the development of the Danube Limes, which the project applies, as well as to discuss the potential benefits for stakeholders at local, regional, and national level. The focus group will be dedicated to the exceptional universal value of the Roman Danube Limes and its possible capitalization in the 21st century.
The event is part of the activities of the project "Valorization of cultural heritage and promotion of sustainable tourism by reviving the common heritage of the Danube Limes as a basis for a cultural route", with acronym Living Danube Limes, funded by the transnational cooperation program "Danube 2014-2020". The project focuses on connecting, revitalizing, exploring, preserving, and highlighting the Roman Danube Limes as a transnational cultural heritage of immense importance to create a solid foundation for a future European cultural route. The project supports the UNESCO World Heritage nomination of the entire Danube Limes and focuses on the nomination process for Croatia, Serbia, Romania, and Bulgaria.
Bononia (Vidin), Ratiaria (Archar), as well as the new archeological site near the village of Sinagovtsi were selected as a pilot site (region) in Bulgaria under the project. We will introduce you to the latest developments in the archaeological research, incl. the conducted with the support of LBI ArchPro (Austria) - project partner, non-invasive archaeological geomorphological survey, as well as the upcoming creation of 3D virtual reality, the application Living Danube Limes and the establishment of the transnational Danube Limes Museum Cluster.
The organizer of the event is National Tourism Cluster "Bulgarian Guide", co-organizers are the Association of Danube River Municipalities and the Center for Heritage Interpretation.
