Plovdiv Jazz Fest
Plovdiv Jazz Fest is set to take place this year from 2 - 6 November. The successor of Plovdiv Jazz Nights has a new name, new format, new concept, aim and objectives. The event is jointly organized by the Municipality of Plovdiv and the Blue Em, thanks to which this fall, the future European capital of culture welcomes some of the world’s greatest contemporary jazz musicians. The forthcoming festival will focus on vocal jazz performances.
Tolstoy's granddaughter - the charming Viktoria Tolstoy will be visiting our country especially for the Jazz Fest.
The young singer will perform with her faithful on and off stage partner - the pianist Jakob Carlsson. They will present their latest project "A Moment of Now"- 14 jazz, pop and rock pieces: exciting interpretations of Stevie Wonder’s "Send One Your Love", Joe Zavinul’s "Shadow And Light", Peter Gabriel’s "Red Rain", "Against All Odds" by Phill Collins, some world famous hits such as Alanis Morissette’s top hit single "Hand In My Pocket ", etc. Victoria and Jacob’s concert will take place on November 5, at the magnificent hall of "Boris Hristov" House of Culture. Some of the other major concerts will be held there as well.
The festival will be opened by the incomparable Kurt Elling. The unparalleled composer, lyricist and vocalese jazz singer will celebrate his birthday on November 2 with the audience of Plovdiv Jazz Fest. The Grammy winning performer is one of the world’s greatest contemporary jazz vocalists.
K. Elling has won the Down Beat Critics Poll fourteen times, the Down Beat Readers Poll seven times and the JazzTimes Readers' Poll eight times, all in the Male Vocalist of the Year category. He has also received the Jazz Journalists Association Male Singer of the Year award eight times. All of his albums are Grammy nominated.
