Osijek Hosts a Dynamic Gathering of Danube Guides: NTC BG Guide Reflects on a Week of Innovation and Unity

Osijek, Croatia – May 2025 – The vibrant river city of Osijek recently played host to two extraordinary back-to-back events under the Danube Guides Action 2 (DGA2) umbrella: the Network Consolidation Meeting (May 12–13) and the Transnational Intensification Course (May 14–16). As a proud project partner, NTC BG Guide is excited to share our unique perspective on this inspiring week of collaboration, strategy, and outdoor innovation.

Strengthening the Danube Guides Network

The week began with the Network Consolidation Meeting, where representatives from across the Danube region gathered to review progress and plot the next chapter in transnational cooperation. The warm welcome at D-Kolektiv set the tone for a deeply productive session.

Topics spanned from status updates and reporting discussions to envisioning the structure of the upcoming briDGe follow-up project. These conversations were not just bureaucratic formalities—they were moments of renewed commitment. For NTC BG Guide, it was an opportunity to voice regional perspectives, showcase local efforts, and solidify our role in shaping the network’s future.

One session of particular impact was the Charter Danube Guides Network discussion, where collective responsibility and sustainable roles were openly debated. As we see it, this living charter will anchor our shared values as we grow.

From Vision to Action: The Intensification Course

Immediately following the network meeting, the Transnational Intensification Course transported our Danube Guides - both literally and metaphorically - into nature’s classroom.

Starting in the lush surroundings of Zlatna Greda Eco Centre, we explored methodologies for nature guiding, including canoeing, hiking, and even a playful outdoor treasure hunt celebrating the heritage of the old puszta people. These hands-on experiences emphasized one key principle: learning by doing.

The second day took us deeper into the Baranja region, through the Kopački rit Nature Park and the scenic Danube wine roads. The blend of ecology, heritage, and tourism was a masterclass in experiential guiding.

On the final day, the course wrapped up with future planning and reflections aboard a riverboat - a fitting metaphor for the flowing, interconnected future we’re building.

We’ve witnessed firsthand the strength of our network and the growing professionalism of Danube guiding.

We’re on course for a resilient, nature-connected, and culturally rooted future.

Here’s to the next bend in the river—together.
